The Shimano Curado series have been used by many anglers
for many years and it could be said that it has become an angler’s main choice
of reel. The series has even put up a reputation as being one of the best reel
series in the world. Being used by many anglers for many years any changes that
Shimano will apply will of course be met with some doubts and reaction. When
Shimano introduced the Curado G many anglers debated on whether this new reel
will live up to the high expectation as the previous ones did. Hopefully it will
survive the cutthroat competition in the industry of reels.
Back then when the Curado D was first introduced many
anglers were happy about the design and the way it was built. They say that the
reel has features and ergonomics that anglers are looking for in a reel. even
with the test of time any many other competitor reels in the market the Curado
D was one of the best reels of his time and even today. You can still see lots
of boats having the Curado D in their arsenal. By the release of Curado E it
was a complete break away from Curado D. The new reel has featured new
functionalities and of course was built on a better design. The also used
graphite in both of the side plates which was a first on the Curado series.
With the use of graphite instead of aluminum on the handle side sideplates the
new reel was met with praise from all anglers and even reel experts say that it
was the best.
We need to know why they used graphite instead of
aluminum. Many anglers still argue on what really is the purpose of using
graphite instead of aluminum. On factor says that they used graphite in order
to reduce the overall weight of the reel, therefore giving more control to the
angler. There were also people saying that they used graphite in order to lower
the cost of making the reel. The prices of aluminum have always been increasing
and in order to keep the price low enough so that the anglers will not lose
lots of money they used graphite. This decision was likely more to target the
economics side of the reel rather than the design. The inflation still hits a
lot of people today and the move to change from aluminum to graphite was
absolutely necessary.
At the ICAST 2011 when the Curado G was introduced many
anglers were confused on what the Curado G really was. If you look at form
factor many people noticed that the Curado G looks a lot like its predecessors
the Curado E. The only difference was that the Curado G has a new paint finish.
There might be some hidden potential that the Curado G will possess but since
this reel is made by Shimano it is pretty sure to have the same high class
quality as they have always delivered.
