Shimano Calcutta D

Shimano is always on the edge. Shimano has finally revealed their new Calcutta D. The new Calcutta has the brand new look as well as functionalities that are designed to change the performance of the reel. The Shimano Calcutta B and TE series became famous in the freshwater and seawater angler communities. These anglers prefer a the old but reliable round reel layout. The new Calcutta D has revolutionized the two previous reels with their new features and wonderful design.

The Shimano Calcutta series is a very popular round reel on the market. They give the angler a mix of performance, smoothness and value. The reel is also able to take in the harsh environment of the saltwater fishing. Many people thought that the Calcutta series was for saltwater fishing but it started out as a freshwater bass reel back in the 90’s. after a few years they started to release bigger sizes. Because of their huge line capacity and very strong drag the reels where also popular on the big bait anglers that toss those full sized swimbaits for bass or the plugs for bigger freshwater fishes like the Muskies. Upcoming Shimano reels are trying to combined the functionalities of the old reel and enhance them, maybe giving them new functions which will make them different from the rest. The Shimano reels are also known to have a reliable VBS cast system.

By appearance the new Calcutta D has somewhat changed from its predecessor. The gold finish is now changed to a silver finish. The aluminum reel is also coated with the Shimano’s E.I surface treatment which prevents the reel to rust or deteriorate. The frame has also changed. It is not anymore symmetrical. The non-handle is smaller than that of the gearbox handle side. All of the changes done in the new reels is all part of the S-Compact body design which gives the reel a smaller form but stronger functionalities. Being small it is also lighter and much more handy to use.
