For me the most important part of your fishing gear is the line. Without fishing line you cannot reel the fish in, obviously so making sure that you line is in top shape is inevitable.

Fishing lines should be wound up properly. This is the basics. Tied up lines can be the cause of line snapping. Perfectly wound up lines can prolong its lifeline. You have heard of fishing lines that snap and fishes got away because of it, not a very good thing, so you need lines that are strong and very durable.
