Many people say that the Type R of the Zillion series made by Daiwa in the most sophisticated Zillion there is. This reel has made some fine tuning of its predecessors and the performance of the reel is off the charts. This reel could easily be a replacement for any kind of reel you have in your arsenal.

The Zillion series of Daiwa has risen up to become their best reel series yet. Through the years many anglers have tried the reel and they are satisfied. Although there are many reels in the company’s lineup that are a lot more cheaper but none of them can compare to the zillion when it comes to performance, refinement and value for money. This reel is used by casual anglers and pro anglers alike. The aluminum bodied zillion is the ideal reel for everyday use because of its complete and balance functions which can capture quite a range of freshwater fish.

Daiwa expanded their lineup by introducing the zillion coastal 7.3. with this introduction reel experts believed that there would not be another zillion that would be as good as the coastal 7.3 but they were made wrong. Before introducing the Zillion type R Daiwa told its fans that they will have new reel which will have black finish. When anglers heard of this they believed that it would be another reel that is using the zaion design of the company. When Daiwa finally revealed the zillion type –R, angles where shocked to see the beautiful new reel and it immediately went sold out on any fishing reel stores.

They only released a limited amount of the zillion type – R as some sort of teaser. For the many fans that did not get the new reel they waited until Daiwa finally fully released the Zillion type-R. Of course being a new product there will always be doubts about its abilities. There were speculations that the new reel is just about the fancy outer design and it still is not quite as good as people would like them to be.

First you would notice is that the handle on Type-R is different from all other Zillions. What amazes many anglers is about the true carbon fiber construction. The carbon fiber is sandwiched on the alloy making it stronger and lighter. The black finish is the one the really separates the reel from the rest of the series. It has a very good looking sporty look that will make any Daiwa fan drool. The functionalities of the Daiwa Zillion type –R is also great. Very smooth and very strong. When the anglers tried the new zillion they are fascinated about it. The new reel is absolutely stunning.

Daiwa Lexa 100

Daiwa has never ceased to stop bringing us high end reels. The only problem is that when you have a high quality reel of course the price would be high. When you go to a reel store the most common complaint that the customer has about Daiwa is that it is too expensive. There really is no reason why Daiwa would not cater to the mid-level reels which would market the people who cannot afford to spend big bucks on reels. Other companies have made mid-level reels in order to reach a broader market because sometimes people not only look at the quality of the product but the price as well especially now that there are recessions everywhere. They did attempt to create mid-level reels and the last one they did was the TD advantage. The reel was balance between price and quality but the reel failed to penetrate the market.

Now they have introduced the Lexa 100. The Lexa is a much more refined reel than the previous reel Daiwa made at the same price levels. It has that grey finish that is smooth and the color is consistent around the reel. Area gap between the frame and the sideplates are minimized as possible but the seam at the front plate has lot more distance. Overall this reel is good for any angler out there. People have tested the Lexa 100 and in their reviews they have found out that the knobs of the reel could be tightened a little bit. This is just a minor thing to consider since you can be sure that the reel will perform without any other troubles. The Lexa 100HL has a very smooth retrieve but that is to be expected. Once you use the reel you can actually feel that it is much more refined that you would think before using the reel. As you go along with fishing using the Lexa 100 you will get annoyed by the knob that is not tightened properly.

If you compare the reel with other brands like the Shimano you will have the idea that Shimano makes the better reels but I think not. Daiwa designs reels that can beat Shimano at their own game. They have different styles which is good because you don’t want companies to have the same design of their reels. If companies have the same reel designs then you will not have a wide variety of reels to choose from. But with this reel I can honestly say that Shimano had better ones. But not all the time Shimano is better. There are some things that Daiwa has better designs that Shimano.

In Conclusion the Lexa 100HL is a good reel. Just ignore the fact that the knob feels like it is loosed. Just concentrate on your fishing an you surely will have a very good time.

Abu Garcia MGXtreme

Since the introduction of Abu Garcia and the debut of their Revo baitcasting reels in 2006, many companies are now on their toes as a tough competitor has arrived. Abu has always one goal in mind and that is to surpass not just Shimano but all other reel companies. Abu has already been given lots of awards and will surely be on top one day. Before Shimano has always been the one to beat when it comes to reels but now there are a lot of reel companies that are up to the task of bringing Shimano down and that is exactly what Abu has in Mind. This time Abu Garcia is introducing a new and better tuned reel the Revo MGXtreme.

The new MGXtreme is weighed at aroung 4.9 ounces right off the box which makes it the lightest low profile baitcaster which is built for bass fishing in the United States and maybe even the whole world. As we all know lighter reels tend to be better because we can have better control of the rods. It also does not need to use too much strength just by controlling it and the strength could be needed when you are fighting with you catch. The Spool weight of the MGXtreme and the original MGX are very much the same. That is the not the only thing that is the same their brake system and IVCB are the same too. The difference was that the MGXtreme’s spool had been added with a pair of ceramic bearing which supports it. This new feature has never been heard off and this excites the anglers most.

The official debut of the MGXtreme is set to be on 2013 but you can still get ahead of everyone and order them beforehand. Well it doesn’t really matter because the reel has already been fully released and you can buy them at any reel store near you. The MGXtreme is certainly a level above the original with new sets of features that excites the novice and pro’s alike. If you want you can always have an Abu Garcia reel and test it whether it can compete with the Shimano or any other trusted reels you may have. Shimano has always been giving the market the best reels which we deserve but now that there is another competitor I am sure that the Shimano and all other reel companies will do their best to give us a much better reels at a much better price.

In conclusion it best to say that the Abu Garcia MGXtreme has lived up to the expectations of anglers around the world. but it is still very hard to say whether they have matched the level of a more seasoned reel companies like the Shimano. Get one for yourself and try it.
